Lewis Redden 1846 Henry, TN; the only MFLD in Henry, TN in 1850 was John W.'s. Green's son Alfred m. Elizabeth Redden 1848 Marshall, KY. Marshall, KY borders Calloway, KY, which borders Henry, TN. Green's parents have not been established. His connection to Halifax is indirect--as far as I know, we have found no record that ties him to Halifax. However, there are strong indications that he was closely related to Martin, Julius and Johnson, all of whom are tied directly to Halifax. Note that there was another female b. 1810/1815 in John W.'s household in 1830. I don't find a marriage record that would account for her. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MOREFIELDHOMEPLACE/message/1956 I had speculated earlier that the John W. & Sarah Moorfield in the 1850 Henry, TN census--with daughters Susan, Sarah, Mary, Elvira and R.F. (Rebecca) (all b. VA)-- matched the John W. & Sally (Powell) Morefield of Halifax. For some reason, I looked at the image of the census record again a few days ago and noticed that there was a Joshua Powell age 59 in household 55/55, while John W. & Sarah were in household #60/60. I believe that Sally, Nancy (m. Henry Morefield) and Joshua were children of Joshua and Fanny (Willingham) Powell. At MRE2002 we looked at a lawsuit brought by Joshua & Fanny's children against Fanny after Joshua's death. At any rate, I think the fact that Joshua Powell (Jr.) was living nearby is even more evidence supporting the speculation that the Henry Co. TN family was indeed John W. & Sarah (Powell) Morefield. Another thing I noticed recently is that Henry County borders Calloway, KY to the south. Graves, KY borders Calloway, KY to the west. Calloway, KY is where Green MFLD settled and Graves, KY is where Robert S. & Prudence (Irby) MFLD settled. Rationale for claiming Wright as the father of John W.: census data suggests that John W. was born @1786. On the Halifax, VA Personal Property Tax Lists 1782-1832, the only "available" fathers for John W. were John, Sr., John, Jr., Wright & Edward. John, Sr. and John, Jr. both had known sons named John. That leaves Wright & Edward. Wright married Nancy Stevens in 1785; no marriage record has been found for Edward, but he first appeared on the tax lists in 1789. I therefore *speculate* that John W. was born about 1786 and was the son of John W. & Sally. Rationale for claiming Joshua & Fanny Willingham Powell as the parents of Sally: John & Sally Morefield sued the Joshua Powell estate in 1813, Plea Book 30, p. 222. A Joshua Powell, who lived close by, was likely Sally's brother, Joshua (Jr.). Henry Co. borders Stewart, TN and Calloway, KY, where Green Morefield lived. Nancy Powell, who married Henry Morefield 1814 Halifax, VA, s/o Wright & Nancy (Stevens) Morefield. Joshua Powell signed the consent for Nancy to marry Henry. The above court action proves that Mary Johnson, daughter of Joseph Johnson with the 1761 will in Lunenburg Co., Virginia, is the wife of Jarrell Willingham. Jarrell Willingham B. 1 Aug 1734 is shown in the Bristol Parish, Prince George Co. Birth Records as the son of John Willingham (1751 will in Lunenburg Co., Virginia) and Mary. Dr. Katherine Woerner believes that it is possible that John could have also been married to a Mary Johnson, perhaps the sister of Joseph Johnson, son of Stephen Johnson, whose (Joseph) daughter, Mary, married Jarrell Willingham.
