Charles Franklin "Charlie" Holland

Obituary:
Mr. Charles Franklin Holland, 72, went to be with his Lord in Memorial Hospital in Danville, VA. He had been in ill health for two years and a patient in the hospital for one week. He was the son of the late Charles Winston Holland and Catherine Clark Holland. Most of his life was spent in Callands and Whitmell, VA, where he was a farmer before retiring seven years ago. He married Hattie Blanche Wells on November 30, 1916.
He was an active member of Whitmell Christain Church, where he served as an elder. Surviving are his wife and the following children: John Thomas Holland of Dry Fork, VA, Carroll William Holland of Ringgold, VA, Kenneth J Holland of Dry Fork, Clarence David Holland of Danville, Mrs. Angie Lois Allen of Danville, Mrs. Annie Elsie Motley of Dry Fork, Mrs. Iva Jeane Barber of Danville, Mrs. Helen Marie McNeeley of Dry Fork and Dorothy Elaine Cranford of Greensboro, NC. He is also survived by brother Reverend John Spencer Holland and sister Mrs. Annie Grogan of Ridgeway, VA, 27 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Whitmell Christian Church. Burial followed in the Church cemetery.

Lois Holland Allen, 90, of Danville, VA,died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at her residence, after a decline in health for several years. Mrs. Allen was born December 15, 1917, in Callands, the daughter of the late Charlie Franklin Holland
and Blanche Wells Holland. She had lived all her life in Pittsylvania County and the Danville area. She was a retired bookkeeper for River Dan Benevolent Fund. Mrs. Allen was a member of West Main Bap-tist Church and an active member of the Danville Charter Chapter of American Business Women's Association, where she was past president, and woman of the year. On November 17, 1934, she married Henry Clay Allen, who died January 11, 1966. Survivors include a dear friend Dot Stone, of the residence; four sisters, Elise H. Motley, Danville; Jean H. Barber, Danville; Marie H. McNeely, Chatham; Elaine H. Cranford, Greensboro, NC; two broth-ers, Kenneth Holland, and Clarence Holland, both of Dry Fork;. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by four brothers, Carroll Holland, J. T. Holland, Kermit Holland, and Clyde Holland. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 21, at 2:00 P.M. from West Main Baptist Church by the Rev. Bruce Wilson. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park.
