REYNOLDS ?IRENE H. (REYNOLDS) SEELYE a lady who dedicated her life to caring for others, died unexpectedly at Troy Community Hospital on Dec. 18, 1996. She was 65 years old. Irene was born in West Grove, Chester Co., Pa. to Ira and Helen (Franklin) Reynolds on Oct. 26, 1931. While in her early teens her family relocated to Canton where she completed her high school education. During this time she was courted by a local lad named Charles Leroy Seelye and they became inseparable. Although she came from the ?flatlands? Irene was able to teach her Endless Mountains Beau a thing or two about hunting. According to her family she bagged more deer and turkeys than any man in the county. Irene and Leroy were married on July 20, 1952 and were subsequently blessed with two sons and a daughter. She acquired six years of college education which she applied to her career as a care giver to the aging and co-authored the Senior Centers Operational Manual which is used by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging. Irene?s sojourn as a caregiver resulted in several relocations of the Seelye family. In 1956 they moved to Kutztown and two years later they moved to York. As a member of the Messiah United Methodist Church in York, Irene managed to set time apart from her career and her homemaking to do the Lord?s work. She served as adviser to the Youth Fellowship, helping to guide young lives along the Lord?s path. In 1774, the Seelyes returned to Canton where Irene assumed the role of site manager for the Canton Community Center for Senior Citizens, retiring in 1988. She was an avid gardener of both flowers and vegetables and always had an abundant harvest to can. She was also known as being one of the best cooks around and her baking expertise was well known throughout the community. She had just finished her Christmas baking the night before her passing. She was a former member of the VFW Post No. 714 Ladies Auxiliary of Canton and a dyed-in-the-wood Baltimore Orioles fan. Irene is survived by her husband C. Leroy Seelye at home, sons, Michael of Canton and Scott Seelye, Sr. of Plymouth, Pa.; daughter, Sandra McWilliams of Sterling, Virginia; brothers, Robert I. Reynolds of Street, Md.; Franklin F. Babcock of Canton; sisters, Linda H. Davis of Granville Summit and Mary Short of Monroeton; grandsons, Derek and Joshua McWilliams and Scott Seelye Jr.; granddaughters, Lauren Seelye; step-granddaughters, Linda Semrau and Alicia Cotter; step-great grandson, Taylor J. Semrau; brother-in-law, Robert Seelye; sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Rumsey) Seelye; special friend, Ken VanNoy of Granville Summit; numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. Memorial service will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Morse and Kleese Funeral home, 40 N. Center St., Canton with the Rev. Duane Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends between 12 and 1 p.m. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Contributions in Irene?s name may be made to the War Memorial Save the Pool fund or the Canton Community Center for Senior Citizens. ?Towanda Daily Review
