Lieutenant-Colonel William Cary (Miles1) 1657-1713, of Skiffs Creek, Mulberry Island, Warwick.
Inherited under hsi father's will the Skiffs Creek plantation on Mulberry Island. From his will it appears that he was one of the proprietors of 'Warwick River Mill" J. P. Captain, Major and Leiutenant-Colonel for Warwick. Sheriff 1709. Burgess 1692, 1693, 1698, 1700-1713. He made an interesting holographic will in 1711 at a time when he expected to risk his life in active military service against the French and Indian invasions of the colony, which were then anticipated. See Spotswood Papers, i, 119, ii, 9, and Campbell, History of Virginia, ch. xlix. He married Martha, dau of Leiutenant-Colonel John Scarisbrook, or York. [For the marriage see York O.B. 6,/539.
