      y. Johnson was born in what is now Lawrence County (then Mercer Co.), Jan
      uary 10, 1819, to George and Sarah (Reynolds) Pearson. The father was bo
      rn in Delaware County, Penn., where he learned the tanner and currier's tr
      ade. He came to this county in 1803, and in 1806 he went down the Ohio Ri
      ver, working at his trade, as far as New Orleans. Thence to Charlesto
      n, S. C., and there followed his trade for some time; returned to is nati
      ve county, and in 1810 he located on a farm in what is now Lawrence C
      o. He married Sarah Reynolds, daughter of James Reynolds, who was connect
      ed with an old forge situated in the present limits of Lawrence Co. Geor
      ge was "reared in the Quaker faith". He was the father of eight childre
      n: James, died in 1857; Thomas, Charles, George, Hannah R., married to J
      ames R. Shaw; Johnson, John and another, of whom the last two died in infa
      ncy. According to her son, Johnson's 1900 Census, #212/212, Sarah was bo
      rn in Delaware Co., PA.****.
      History of Mercer Co. PA, 1909, p. 873 & 874. On April 6, 1812, Geor
      ge Pearson was married to Sarah Reynolds, a daughter of James Reynolds a
      nd Hannah Webster, his wife. James Reynolds and Hannah, his wife, were bo
      rn in Wilmington, Delaware****, and came to the county lying north of N
      ew Castle [in Mercer Co. later Lawrence Co.] about the time of the arriv
      al of the Pearsons. Sarah Reynolds was born December 18, 1787, and di
      ed at New Castle, November 1, 1871.
