      {Twelve of the 13 children were listed. Milton, the next to last child, had died a few years before in Arkansas and had left no issue.}

      Ephraim Stanfield had died intestate in Madison County and his widow, Sarah, was allotted a dower of 130 acres on Panther Creek, as noted in commissioners' report dated Feb. 1, 1848. On February 7, 1848, Lot 1, 182 acres (including the widow's dower) was sold to Ephraim Stanfield for $618.80. Lot 2, 139 acres sold to Thomas L. Stanfield for $444.80. Lot 3, 68 1 /2 acres, sold to John Jones for $188.37 1/2.
