My Grandmother Madaline Frances Edwrds 'Mattie', named a daughter Adelaide Ryan Carter, a nod, perhaps to her Aunt's Family. Information of this line was contributed by Raymond W. Ryan, Jr. P. O. Box 508, Powhatan VA 23139-0508 in 1998.

      1. Minerva Anne Edwards was married at Sacred Heart Cathedral Roman Catholic Church, Richmond, Va. by Father Fehling 17 Jul 1855 to Patrick Paul Ryan s/o Phillip Ryan and Mary Loughlan (recent finding of mother's surname on Patrick Ryan's death certificate; information provided by son, William Thomas Ryan.)
Madaline Frances Edwards 'Mattie', named a daughter Adelaide Ryan Carter, a sign of her love and affection for sisters of Adelaide Blanche Liggan and William Thomas Ryan (son of Patrick Paul and Minerva Anne Ryan).

Mattie Edwards Carter, my grandmother, named her daughter for two of her siblings. A custom of the time.
