Brief Lottie Carter Newell
Lottie Carter Newell, 85, 1122 Arbor Drive, died Wednesday (July 17, 2002) at her home after five years of declining health. Born Aug. 9, 1916, in Danville, Va., Mrs. Newell was a homemaker, a seamstress and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dewey Stephens, and a son, Billy Carter Stephens. Survivors include husband Sylvester A. Newell; stepson James Craig Newell, Robbins; sisters Thelma Atwell and Vera Garabedian, both of Danville, Va., and Empress Dawson, Crestview, Fla.; and one granddaughter.

Lottie Newell
SALISBURY, N.C. - Lottie Carter Newell, 85, of 1122 Arbor Drive, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at her residence. She had been in declining health for five years. Born August 9, 1916, in Danville, Va., she was the daughter of Robert O. Carter and Sallie Waddell Carter, who both predeceased her. Mrs. Newell had lived in Salisbury, N.C. since 1968. She was a homemaker and had worked as a seamstress. She was of the Baptist faith. She was first married to Dewey Stephens, who is deceased, and later married Sylvester A. Newell, who survives. Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence, include one stepson, James Craig Newell of Robbins, N.C.; one granddaughter, Robin Gloris Stephens of Pineville, N.C.; three sisters, Thelma Atwell and Vera Garabedian, both of Danville, and Empress Dawson of Crestview, Fla. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by a son, Billy Carter Stephens, a brother, Clarence Carter, and a sister, Lucille Hammond.
