Peggy Ann Oakes, age 66, of 14579 Callands Road, Callands, VA died Monday, September 16, 2013 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach. She was born on October 10, 1946, in Pittsylvania County, the daughter of the late Henry Calvin Oakes and the late Vera Reynolds Oakes.
Peggy is survived by two sisters, Kay O. Hazelwood and husband Harvey of Lynch Station and Joan O. Chapin and husband Will of Callands; one brother, Henry Calvin Oakes, Jr.and wife Leesa of Cornelius NC. Three Nieces Debra Ford and husband Gary, Ann Shaw and husband Dennis, Mitzi Brumfield and husband Ryland. Five nephews Bill Chapin and wife Lauren, Emory Oakes and wife Bonita, Evan Oakes, Spencer Oakes Bryant Hazelwood and wife Angie. Great nieces Grace Ford, Alysha Hazelwood, Great nephews William and Caleb Ford, John and Jacob Brumfield, Matt Hazelwood, Justin Fisher, and Brandon Shaw. Peggy spent most of her life being a caregiver for others and was a witness and inspiration to everyone who knew her.
Funeral services will be conducted at County Line Christian Church on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 2:00 PM with the Minister Dean Ashby and Tim Maness officiating. Burial will be at County Line Christian Church Cemetery. Scott Funeral Home in Chatham is serving the Oakes family.
