From records of Charles Parish, York: Robert Carter, son of Thomas by Susan was born 10 Nov 1695.
Hope Carter, daughter of Thomas by Susan was born 17 Jun 1699 and died 14 Oct 1699. If this is the same Robert Carter, that would make him about 24 years old at the time of the 1720 land purchase.
