Henry Clay Eggleston, 86, of 1583 Emmaus Church Road, Moneta, Va., died peacefully on Friday, March 21, 2014, at Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, Va.
He was born on February, 2, 1928, in Henry County, Va., to the late William Henry Eggleston and Ruby Richardson Eggleston.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Janice Merricks Eggleston. Henry and Janice were long-time residents of the Dyers Store Community in Martinsville prior to moving to Moneta, Va.
Mr. Eggleston attended Vinton Church of Christ, Vinton, Va. and was a member of County Line Christian Church, Axton, Va.
He was retired after 46 years of employment at Hooker Furniture Corporation in Martinsville. He enjoyed gardening, cows, cars, petting grand dog, Buddy and reading newspapers daily.
Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanne Ashbridge (Byron) of Charlotte, N.C., Betty Lou Fox (Michael) of Moneta, Va. and Rita Gail Dillon (Rick) of Axton, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Mike Eggleston (Vicki) of Blacksburg, Va.; sister, Alice Swanson of Axton, Va. and grandchildren, Whitney Eggleston, Matthew Ashbridge and triplets, Tyler, Sean and Megan Ashbridge and Neil Fox, who spent countless hours helping care for his grandfather.
Also surviving are two step-granddaughters, Lindsey and Meredith Fox.
The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to his devoted caregivers, Betty Gray, Amy and Ashley Lawhorn, Donna Smith, and Jacque Michalski and to a special neighbor, Dennis Jones.
The funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at County Line Christian Church, Axton, VA with Minister Dean Ashby and Minister Bill Hines officiating. Burial will be at County Line Christian Church Cemetery, Axton, VA.
