      Francis Watkins Carter served in the 20th Tennessee Infantry, CSA until disabled by wounds received in the Battle of Shiloh, Tennessee

      Son William Vaulx Carter b 30 Jan 1883 married Helen Cornyn Hunter; graduated from West Point in 1904 and was a lieutenant in the Sixth U.S. Cavalry
