      GENEALOGY OF THE COCKE FAMILY OF VIRGINIA

      The Cocke Family of Henrico: Descendants of Richard, Thomas, John & William Cocke of Henrico. William Cocke, may have been a son of William Cocke2 by his first marriage with Jane Clarke. Elizabeth Cocke, d/o William and Jane Clarke Cocke, married Lawrence Woodward. Their maternal uncle, John Flower, lived in James City Co., In 1629 Christopher Woodward was a Burgess for Westover, and there was a Captain Henry Woodward in the French and Indian Wars, 1755-57. The Rev. James Bacon, Eng., first cousin of the great Lord Bacon married Martha Woodward, and had issue Nathaniel Bacon, b 1620, d. 1692; member Council in Virginia 1657; 1657; Burgess o=for York 1659; Acting Governor 1689.
      Speculated that these Cockes are brothers of the same parents who have not been identified.
