      Death: Apr. 12, 2013

PETERS, Mary Beaumont "Polly," 84, formerly of Spotsylvania, died April 12, 2013 at Manor Care in Richmond.

She was born February 19, 1929 in Richmond, a daughter of the late Rev. Harold B.W. Peters and Dorothy Durrette Peters. Ms. Peters studied at St. Margaret's School in Tappahannock and graduated from Marshall High School in Fauquier County. She attended Mary Washington College for two years. At age 17, she suffered debilitating injuries as a passenger in an automobile accident. Despite those challenges, she led an interesting, productive life. Her parents in 1964 retired to Tenby Cottage, their small Spotsylvania County farm. There, she gardened, tended chickens, painted and help care for her parents as they aged. After her parents' deaths, Ms. Peters in 1986 moved to an apartment at Imperial Plaza in Richmond.

Survivors include a sister, Gayle P. Emerson of Luray; six nieces and nephews and eight great-nephews and great-nieces. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Dr. Philip B. Peters, Peyton P. Peters and Michael C. Peters.

The Very Rev. Jeffrey A. Packard conducted a graveside service Sunday, April 21, at Christ Episcopal Church at Spotsylvania Courthouse.
