JOHN CHARSHEE: Mr. John Charshee, of Perryville, employed as a brakeman on the Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore Railroad, met with a serious accident on Monday. He worked on the way freight and while coupling cars at North East was run over by part of that train. (Cecil Whig Sat. 10/5/1889)
JOHN C CHARSHA: aged 56 years, died last Friday night, at Delaware Hospital, of a stroke of apoplexy suffered on December 18. He was employed as a train dispatcher on the Maryland Division, Pennsylvania Railroad Company, and worked at the French Street Station. He had been in the employ of the company for 41 years, and had been a train dispatcher more than 20 years. Mr. Charsha entered the employ of the company when he was 18, as a brakeman on a freight train. It was while employed in this capacity that he had the misfortune to lose one of his legs as the result of an accident. Undaunted by the accident, he learned telegraphy and was an operator in the various offices of the company. Later he was promoted to train dispatcher. Mr. Charsha is survived by his wife and three daughters: Mrs. A. H. Jackson, Miss Mildred Charsha and Mrs. J. Nelson Abbott. He was a member of Telegraphers? Council, No. 29, Jr. O.U.A.M., Loyal Order of Moose, No. 184, and Osceola Lodge, No. 5, K. of P., Newark. He was also a member of St. Thomas? P. E. Church, Newark. His funeral was held on Monday afternoon from his late residence, 802 Jackson Street, with interment in St. Mark?s Cemetery, near Aikin, this county. (12/18/1928 Cecil Whig)
JOHN C. CHARSHA: stricken with apoplexy three days before, John C. Charsha, aged 56 years, of 802 Jackson Street, died in the Delaware Memorial Hospital last Friday, December 21, 1928. He was a train dispatcher and had been employed in that capacity at the French Street Station of the Pennsylvania railroad for 27 years, His service record with the railroad extended over a period of 41 years. At that time he entered the employ of the system as a brakeman on a freight, as the result of an accident, while on duty, that he lost a leg. However, he studied telegraphy, became an operator and was accordingly, moved up the line. He was a member of the telegrapher?s council no. 29, Wilmington Lodge, #184, loyal order of Moose Osceloa Lodge, #5. He was born in Perryville Maryland and at one time had lived in Wilington for a number of years. Later, however, he moved to Newark, and made his home there for twelve years. He only returned to this city last August. The funeral will be held from his home tomorrow afternoon, at 1 o?clock. Rev. R.B. Matthews, Pastor of St. Thomas P.E. Church at Newark will officiate. Interment will be at St. Mark?s Cemetery, Cecil County, Maryland. He leaves his wife Mrs. Nellie Charsha and three daughters, Mr. A.H. Jackson, Miss Mildred Charsha, and Mrs. J. Nelson Abbott, all of this city. There are also two grandchildren and a brother, George W. Charsha, of Philadelphia. (Sunday Morning Star, 12/23/1928)
