      CALVIN THOMAS CHARSHA, 61, dies. Past head of the legion post here. Calvin (shorty) Charsha of 317 North Eighth Street, died at his home at 3:35 yesterday afternoon after an illness of about a year and a half. Mr. Charsha was a civil service employee at Scott air force base retiring in 1953. He joined the army, May 1, 1917 and after serving in the field artillery and air corps for more than 29 years he retired from the service April 13, 1946 with the rank of master sergeant. Active in the American legion affairs, he was a past commander of the George E. Hilgard post 58 and the past Chief de Gare of St. Clair-Monroe Co. voiture 926 of the forty ET eight. He served as the guard commissar of the Illinois forty ET eight and was a member of the Egyptian past commanders club of the American legion. He was a member of the St. Paul?s evangelical and reformed church. Mr. Charsha was born at Wilmington Delaware on 2/1/1893, a son of the late James g and Sallie Charsha, and married Sophia Wuest in Belleville, June 27, 1936. Besides his wife, he is survived by two brothers, Clarence l. of Wilmington, Delaware and John E. of Carney's Point New Jersey. Three nephews and a niece also survive. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Thursday afternoon at the Albert B. Baldus funeral home. rev. dr. b.j. Koehler will officiate Interment will be in Valhalla burial park. Graveside rites will be conducted by the George E. Hilgard Legion post. Friends may call at the funeral home at eight o'clock Wednesday night. (Belleview daily advocate-Monday 10/18/1954)
