Murry was born in Ripley, MS, most likely when his family was living at what is now 306 North Main Street. The house was torn down in the fall of 1923. It stood across the street, east of the home of one of his grandfather's, Col. William Clark Falkner. When Murry became old enough he worked for the family owned railroad of which the president had been his grandfather, Col William Clark Falkner. It was when Murry was living in New Albany in 1897 that his first son was born, William Faulkner. This son was the one to first use the "u" in his name.
Shortly after William was born the family moved back to Ripley, where two other sons were born, John Wesley Thompson Falkner III and Murry Charles Falkner. When the family owned railroad was sold, Murry and his family moved to Oxford, where
the fourth son, Dean Falkner, was born.
In Oxford Murry Falkner was at one time the business manager of the University of Mississippi.
