Birth: 5 Aug 1872, Clarksville, Montgomery Co., TN Death:20 Jun 1955,Hopkinsville, Christian Co., KY Charles Arthur Carter was the son of James T. and Mary (Balthrop) Carter, who lived most of their lives in Clarksville, TN, before dying young sometime in the mid to late 1870s. Born in Tennessee, Charles was raised in Ballard County, Kentucky, after the family of his paternal grandfather John Boisseau Carter took in, he and his sister Mary Eliza following their parents' deaths. Not many records survive on Charles' early life, but we do know he had at least one sibling, Ione, who did not survive to adulthood. Details regarding the identity of Charles' brother Edd who removed to Dallas, TX are unknown, but two of Charles' sisters - Florence Annie Carter, who married James C. West, and Mary Eliza Carter, who married Rufus King - lived in the Hopkinsville area. By age 22, Charles had settled in Christian County - likely Dogwood or Fruit Hill - where he met and married Ester V. King on 18 November 1894. Charles, his sister Mary Eliza, and his half-aunt Mary Foster all married children of Stephen T. King Sr. of Pond River, Fruit Hill. Charles and Ester had seven children: ?
