Alice Borden Moore Sisson, 85, of Wrightsville Beach, died Saturday, July 31, 2004, in Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Life Care Center after a brief illness.
She was born in Wilmington, October 10, 1918, the daughter of the late Roger and Alice Wallace Moore. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Sisson Sr. and her brothers, Roger Moore Jr. and Edwin Moore.
Alice was a faithful member of St. Andrews Covenant Presbyterian Church for 74 years, where she served as an Elder and Sunday School Teacher. She received her Masters degree in Social Work from UNC Chapel Hill in 1972 and served as an inspiring family therapist and clinical social worker with Family Services of the Lower Cape Fear for 32 years.

She received wide recognition for her many contributions: honorary member of Wilmington Rotary Club, NC Social Worker of the Year Award (1989), honoree of Elderhaus (2001), and YWCA's Woman of Achievement Award.
Alice's family, colleagues, and friends describe her as Christian, unconditionally loving, progressive, compassionate, witty, bright, steadfast, stubborn, and a consummate lady.
She is survived by her son, William Sisson Jr. (Joy Miller) of Wilmington, her daughters, Penny Rushmore (Dean) of Marysville, OH, and Fran Gibson of Oakland, CA; seven grandchildren, Wendy Owen (Nadav Savio), Ethan Owen (Kristen), Philip Rushmore, Lindsey Rushmore, Misha Miller-Sisson, John Rushmore, Ari Miller-Sisson; and two great-grandchildren, Zellie and Reese Owen.
