  • Notes
    • John was a very good bear hunters and was fearless. One
story is written that other men were frightened to go into
a cave just a mile up the creek from the family mill, but
John and his brother, George, entered, shot once and drug
out a 450 pound bear. The meat and grease lasted for a
month or two. [Beck & Tittle Footprints; Alexander D. Beck
