The American Revolution in North Carolina
Jeduthan Harper
Lt. Colonel in the Chatham County Regiment of Militia - 1775-1781
Colonel in the Chatham County Regiment of Militia - 1781-1783
On 9/9/1775, Jeduthan Harper was commissioned as a Lt. Colonel under Col. Ambrose Ramsey in the Chatham County Regiment of Militia, both of whom were at the battle of Moore's Creek Bridge on 2/27/1776.
During the 3Q of 1781, Jeduthan Harper was commissioned as a full Colonel, alongside Col. Ambrose Ramsey (who was a POW), in the Chatham County Regiment of Militia, upon the death of Lt. Colonel/Colonel John Luttrell on 9/13/1781 at the battle of Lindley's Mill. He retained this position until the end of the war (assumed, records incomplete).
There are hints that Lt. Colonel/Colonel Jeduthan Harper was also captured and paroled during 1781, but this Author cannot locate the details of when and where, etc.
Jeduthan Harper was born on 11/15/1736 in Virginia. On 11/1/1775, he married Gizael Parkes in Orange County, NC, and they had seven (7) known children. Jeduthan Harper moved his family to Randolph County during 1781 (some records indicate it was in 1780). He died in November of 1819.
