    • Virginia Ellen Long Satterfield, 91, of 1007 Piney Grove Road, Alton died April 11, 2011 at The Woodview.

      She was born June 21, 1919 in Halifax County to George Morgan Long and Mannie Dale Satterfield Long and was married for 74 years to the late Samuel Wilson Satterfield. Mrs. Satterfield was a homemaker.

      Survivors include one daughter, Patricia S. Walden and husband Sam of Danville; three sons, Eugene Satterfield and wife Barbara of Alton, George Sammy Satterfield and wife Sue of South Boston and Owen Satterfield and wife Barbara of Halifax; one son-in-law, Carlton Williams of South Boston; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

      One daughter, Estelle Satterfield Williams, also preceded Mrs. Satterfield in death.

      Graveside services will be held today, April 13, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Olive Branch United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Woodfin officiating.

      The family received friends at Brooks Funeral Home Tuesday, April 12, 2011, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

      The family requests anyone wishing to give memorials consider a favorite charity.
