James McFarland of Pittsburgh, PA, Major John, s/o Wm. Lewis, was an officer in the Revolutionary war and commanded a company at the battle of Monmouth. In 1777 Wm. Thomson, and Mary Preston; left issue and died at Sweet Springs in Virginia in 1823. Major Thomas, s/o Col. Wm. Lewis, born 1761. He was appointed as Major of the US Army by Washington. He was greatly distinguished for gallantry and was called the 'Modern Chevalier Bayard>" He killed Dr. Bell of SC in a diel, and died in 1804. He was an officer in Waynes army. Alexander, born 1763; married and left posterity; died in 1804. Col. Wm. T. Lewis, s/o of Col. Wm., b. in 1766; married Elizabeth Cabell of Nelson Co., VA He died childless at Mount Athos, his home, near Lynchburg, VA in 1828. Member of Congress and came within a few votes once of being elected Governor of VA. Agatha, d/o Wm. Lewis b. 1774; m. Col. Oliver Towles, of Campbell Co., VA in 1794. She died in 1843, leaving posterity. Elizabeth M. b. 1777; married Col John Trent, of Cumberland Co., VA died in 1837 leaving posterity. Dr. Charles W. Lewis, b. 1780; United States Quartermaster m. Mary B. Irvine -- had issue.
