He married, first in 1783, Mary Cary, and secondly, in 1799, Lucy Nelson, daughter of Governor Thomas Nelson and Lucy Grymes Nelson of Yorktown, Va. He was Aide de Camp to General Lafayette during the Revolution as a Captain in the Cavalry.
