      to me
Mary Frances - Happy New Year !! May the promise of the New Year be met with bright eyes, wide smiles and warm, loving hearts !!

It's been a while since we last touched base. Like you mentioned in your October email, drama has a way of creeping into our lives. It certainly has for me on many fronts, but the most impactful was the death of my mother, Doris May (North) Carter on Thanksgiving evening. Mom was the de facto matriarch of the Carter family - my father, Harold Daniel Carter, was the oldest of the 9 children of Aubrey Harden Carter and Florence Evelyn (Bickley) Carter. Mom's stature as "a Carter" was evidenced by the attendance at our family/friends gathering on Dec 4th...the Carter relatives outnumbered the North relatives 10 to 1. Quite a tribute !!! Her obituary is attached just to expand upon her story.

My grandfather, Aubrey Harden Carter was the son of James Aubrey Carter who is in the ReynoldsPatoVa database as person I21458. Obviously, that makes James Aubrey Carter my paternal Great Grandfather. I'd love to talk some time about incorporating the info that I have about the Carter line into the database. I'm continuing to find tidbits of info and, recently, I've found a treasure trove of photos and other information that I never knew existed. All of this I found while opening boxes that my Mom had stored in her house - I swear I have never seen most of this stuff before...this despite the fact that I was close to my Mom and Dad !!! Much of it is sentimental information, but in that sentimental information we get a peek into the lives of our families and our family history. It's all incredibly important to me, although much of it is not necessarily of critical importance for genealogy purposes. For now, I'm keeping most everything and will digitize all of it at some point.

Okay, I'll stop rambling and say again that I am eternally grateful for the website that you and your (our??) family has created - the Reynolds Pa to Va website. It has shined a bright light on my family's past that was previously nothing more than a dark tunnel. Thank you again, and I do hope we can catch up some time in the near future.

Best to you and yours for 2023 and beyond !!!
      Michael Carter

Note: Many trees on Ancestry indicate the grandfather of Wilson M. Carter is Henry Fauntleroy Carter 1785-1830; however, the yDNA evidence contradicts this suggested connection because the yDNA of the Robert 'King' Carter line is known to serious researchers of that line. Ignore the DNA science at your own peril.
