Miss Gertrude Venable Johnson Marries Captain Jefferis Stetson. A large reception Held at Edgewood St. John's Episcopal church was the scene Friday evening of one of the most prominent
social events of the late spring when Miss Gertrude Venable Johnson became the bride of
Capt. Jefferis Stetson, ATC, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Whidden Stetson of Boston, Mass. The bride is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Ransom Johnson of Walnut Rd. Rector Officiates Rev. Harry S. Longley performed the eight o'clock service before a representative gathering of relatives
and friends. As they assembled, Prof. J. Henry Francis presented a program of nuptial music
and played the traditional marches for the entrance of the bridal party and the recessional.
Palms and ferns were arranged in the chancel and the railing was entwined with huckleberry foliage,
which also formed the background for the altar. The altar vases were filled with calla lilies and branched candelabra holding cathedral tapers were placed on each side. White satin ribbons designated the family pews. Entering the church with her father, the bride was gowned in traditional ivory satin, the extremely full skirt ending in a wide circular train. The low neckline of the fitted bodice, with long pointed sleeves, was accented by heirloom duchess lace, which extended over the shoulders. Her full length
tulle veil, worn by her mother on the occasion of her marriage, was inset with a wide panel of duchess lace and was draped from a similar lace tiara. Her oblong bouquet of white roses and orchids was showered with baby's breath.
Miss Elizabeth Van Leer of New York City was maid of honor and bridesmaids were the bride's cousins,
Mrs. Herbert M. West, the Misses Dorothy Bowne Smith and Margaret Thayer; the bridegroom's sisters, the Misses Joyce and Seeley Stetson, and. Miss Barbara Andreae of Yale, Mich. Their identical frocks of' daffodil yellow taffeta
were designed with bouffant shirts and long fitted bodices, which had deep V-necklines and bracelet
length sleeves. Plaited calottes with shoulder length veils were worn as headdresses and their arm bouquets of larkspur, daisies and babysbreath were tied with blue ribbons. Cpl. Johnson Best Man

Mrs. Johnson received guests at a reception at Edgewood Country Club wearing a dinner gown of ashes of roses crepe, fashioned with a square neckline, short sleeves and a draped skirt. Mrs. Stetson was
attired in a chartreuse crepe gown with a short cape of hunter green. Both had shoulder corsages of white orchids. An imported lace and cut-work
cloth covered the bride's table, which was centered with a tiered wedding cake encircled with gardenias and smilax. Whites roses and snapdragons in silver urns and tapers in silver candelabra were placed at each end of the table. Festoons
of smilax decorated the wall sconces and arrangements of white blossoms and smilax stood on the mantelpieces in the reception and ball rooms.
For a wedding trip in the Poconos, young Mrs. Stetson traveled in a bolero suit of navy crepe and a small navy felt hat embellished by small white bows.
