The premise that the wife of William Edwards was Elizabeth Barksdale has not been proven due to a question concerning a birth that would have occurred about 2 years prior to their marriage (see William Edwards, Jr. below). (The marriage of 'a' William Edwards to Elizabeth Barksdale occurred on February 19, 1762 in Lunenburg Co., Va.)

      A. William Edwards, Jr., was born abt. 1760.

      B. John Edwards, Sr. b. abt. 1762; d. abt. 1848; m. Martha (some believe it was Martha Elizabeth Rainey. If so the marriage was on June 29, 1785, Brunswick Co., Va.). The will of John Edwards does not give his wife's maiden name. It is in Book-22-P. 220, Recorded Dec. 1848, Halifax Co., Va.
John Edwards, Sr. left 17 slaves to Martha, his wife, and they had the following five children:

      a. James M. Edwards, Sr. b. 1799 m. Elvira B. Boley b. 1809 (my line). They had 10 children and, in the 1850 Census, the oldest was Elizabeth, 19 years of age; the youngest was Montigh, 1/2 year old. In his father' will, James M. Edwards, Sr. had a debt forgiven and was left $1.

      b. John Edwards, Jr. was to share in 1/3 of his father's estate with family except for James Edwards and Susan W. Edwards Scott. John Edwards, Jr.'s children were left 1/3 of their grandfather's (John Edwards Sr.) estate.

      c. William Edwards was to share in 1/3 of his father's estate same as his brother, John Edwards, Jr., above.

      d. Susan W. Edwards m. Robert M. Scott on Dec. 19, 1831, Halifax Co., Va. Robert Scott was left $1 per the will of Susan's father, John Edwards, Sr.

      e. Sarah Edwards m. Clemente Lipscombe on Dec. 23, 1811, Halifax Co., Va. Sarah Edwards Lipscombe was left 1/3 of her father's estate.

      D. Richard Edwards b. abt. 1765; d. 1819; m. Rhoda Tabor on Nov. 12, 1800, Halifax Co., Va.

      C. Claiborn Edwards b. abt. 1763 in Halifax Co., Va.; d. Dec. 1844 in Warren Co., Ky.; buried unmarked grave, Mitchell McCoy's Farm, Warren Co., Ky.; m. Dorothy (Dolly) Wiley on Dec. 8, 1801 in Halifax Co., Va.

      E. Elizabeth Edwards b. 1770; m. John Edwards (of another Edwards family) on Oct. 24, 1791, Halifax Co., Va.

      F. Mary Ann Edwards b. abt. 1774; d. 1846; buried Old Beech Presbyterian Church, Summer Co., Tn.; m. John Boyd on Nov. 7, 1801, Halifax Co., Va.

      G. Theodocia Edwards b. abt. 1776 in Bedford Co., Va.; m. Isham Hall Lain, b. Feb. 28, 1782 in Campbell Co., Va.; on Jan. 29, 1815, Halifax Co., Va. (NOTE: Campbell Co., Va. was formed from Bedford Co., Va. in 1782. Therefore Theodocia (sometimes spelled Theodosha) actually lived in the same area as her husband-to-be. They didn't move; the boundaries changed.)
