Gilley Whitlock Lipscomb was born in 1812 the daughter of Clement Lipscomb and Susan Edwards Lipscomb. She was married to Biggers Powell on June 16, 1829 in Caswell County, NC. Gilley and Biggers had eight children: Harriett Elizabeth Powell Turner, William Biggers Powell, Jarrell Powell, James Clem Powell, Henry Edward Powell, Sarah Jane "Sallie" Powell Holt, Mary Catherine Powell Grinstead and Minerva Powell. Gilley was living in Caswell County at the time of Biggers death in 1880 and does not appear in any future census records so she apparently died sometime before 1890 and was buried in the family cemetery near Blanch, NC.
