Albert M. Swanson
Funeral service for Albert Mitchell Swanson will be held 11 AM, Tuesday October 18, 2005, at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton St., Elkton, MD 21921, with Rev. Karen F. Bunnell officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 PM to 8 PM, Monday, October 17, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Cherry Hill, MD, with military honors by American Legion Mason-Dixon Post #194, Rising Sun, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Legion Mason-Dixon Post #194 Honor Guard or VFW Post #8175, in care of the funeral home.
Mr. Swanson, 85, of Elkton, MD, died Thursday, October 13, 2005. Born on April 29, 1920, in Elkton, MD, he was the son of the late Olaf and Amelia Foraker Swanson. Mr. Swanson was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He retired after 42 years from the Pennsylvania Railroad, after which he worked for the Cecil County Board of Education. Mr. Swanson was a member of Elkton United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher for many years. Other memberships included United Methodist Men, VFW Post #8175, American Legion Cecil Post #15, Cecil County Historical Society, and North East Senior Center. He was also an associate member of the 29th Division Association and the Railroad Retirement Group.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Rebecca Reynolds Swanson; sons, Hobert Halsey and Joseph Wayne Halsey, both of Elkton, MD; and sister, Gloria Gribble, Newark, DE.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Swanson was preceded in death by his siblings, Frank, Bill, Robert, Buck, Elmer, Matilda, and Florence; and grandson, Billy Halsey.
