In the 67th year of his Age.
A soul prepared, made no delays.
The summons comes, the saint obeys:
Swift was his flight, and short the road.
He closed his eyes, and saw his God."

John Allen was a Captain of the sloop, Seaflower. It carried supplies to the Continental Army in Tiverton, RI. One evening, he was taken by the British from his home, and his house was burned. He was imprisoned in Newport, RI for four months and released to his family in Quidnessett.

John Allen served in the state legislature, and he was appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court.

In 1801, he built a home overlooking Allen's Harbor near his former home that had been burned. This boarded up house still stands near the Davisville Military Base.

Judge Allen was killed by a bull which he had bought from Hope Island. While the bull was attacking his oxen, he tried to seperate them. John Allen was tampled, and he died thirty-six hours later.
