THE CARROLL CHRONICLE
Friday
6 December 1912
JESSE PAGE was born in Virginia, 13 Nov 1819 and died in Bergholz, Ohio 26 November 1912 aged 93 years and 13 days. In 1838 he was married to Miss. Alcinda Moore. There were two sons and four daughters came to bless their home. Mrs. Page died in 1865. 13 Feb 1866 he was married to Miss. Susan C. Creager. Their home was blessed with seven sons and five daughters, all of whom survive except Jessie who died in Infancy. Mrs Page died 21 May 1912. He leaves 12 children, __ grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren to mourn his departure. He was one of the old settlers or pioneers before R.R. were built in this section. He at one time was mail carrier, carrying the mail on horse back from Steubenville to New Philadelphia.
When 24 years old he was happily converted and joined the Uhrichsville M. E. church. A few years later he transferred his membership to the "Old Sherrodsville" church, and when this new M. E. church was built in 1887 he transferred membership to the new church, where it ever after remained till he died. Thus for about 69 years he was a faithful member of the church.
Most of his time, and till age and infirmity came, he was an active worker in the church. In his early Christian life he was one of the leading singers ofter "pitching the tune" and leading the music. He was also for many years a devoted class leader. He was really one of the pioneers of the church, one of it's pillars, one of it's faithful heroic workers, always in the front and ever ready and willing to work, and always working for the advancement of the Redeemer's kingdom. Truly a good man and Prince hath fallen in Israel.
Appropriate funeral services were conducted in Bergholz and in Sherrodsville M. E. church, in the presence of a host of relatives and friends, after which interment was made in Leesville Cemetery.
