Be that all as it may, James 1 Reynolds was the first settler on this particular tract of land. He did not buy it from the Indians as the family tradition likes to put it. but he was undoubt-
edly the first occupant to follow the Indians. The farm comprised about one hundred and fifty acres. A small brook, now known as the "Sand Hill Stream" flows north through this land into the Potowomut River. On the fifty acres west of this brook
James 1 Reynolds built his homestead, and that land has remained in the family ever since. It is now owned by William Reynolds Essex, son of John Vaughan Essex and his wife Mary 7 E. Reynolds ('William. ,; William/' Jabez, 4 Jabez, 3 Francis,- James 1 ).
