Mary A Kirby was the daughter of Meades Anderson Kirby and Sarah C (Word) Kirby in about 1829 in Halifax County, Virginia. She was the second born child, the first born daughter, and must have been a great help to her mother and her siblings when her father died, leaving his wife to rear their large family. Mary never married. She lived in her later years with her niece or nephew and their children. She appears for the last time in the 1900 U.S. Federal Census, living in Birch Creek, Halifax, Virginia.
