BLUEFIELD ? Dorothy Lorraine Rigney Bales, age 89, of 111 Summer Place (Bluewell), Bluefield, W.Va., passed away on Monday, December 1, 2008 at a Bluefield hospital.Born on June 20, 1919 in Bramwell, she was a daughter of the late Robert Morris and Lucy Tabor Rigney. She had been a resident of Bluewell for 39 years and was formerly of Elkhorn and Bramwell. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Pete Bales; an infant daughter; a granddaughter, Nicole Day; six brothers; and five sisters.Survivors include one son: Larry (Cheryl) Bales of Chester, Va.; five daughters: JoAnn Atkins of Wheelersburg, Ohio, Betty Sue (Royce) Day of Tampa, Fla., Carol (Duane) Stratton of Richmond, Va., Barbara (Dave) Nichols of Chesterfield, Va., Eva Gay Bales of Bluewell; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; one sister: June (Peb) Jarrett of Washington state.Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with the Rev. James Rose officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with Kevin Bales, Royce Day, Duane Stratton, Dave Nichols, Randy Ball, Robert Waschler, and John Hodock serving as pallbearers.Friends may call on Saturday from 12:00-1:00 at the funeral home.Memorial contributions can be made to the The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 1311 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains, NY 10605Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell is serving the Bales family.
