All the sons of Powell Tuck, Sr. who accompanied him to Kentucky, except the Rev. John Percy Tuck, were Union sympathizers in the War Between the States. Their numerous contemporary cousins were all on the side of the Confederate States.
Powell Tuck was born 12-26-1787 in Halifax County, Virginia. He married Mary Fletcher on 23 Dec 1807 (probably a daughter of Nathan Fletcher & Mary Tuck) who died 6 Sept 1816. On 6 April 1820 he married a second time, Edney Willingham, granddaughter of Capt. Sharp Hotspher of the Revolutionary Army. Some years after this marriage, leaving behind his little daughter and twin sons by his first marriage, he moved with his remaining family to Bedford County, Tennessee. Later he joined his brother, John Tuck, who was living in Macon County, Tennessee.
Then came a move to Smith County, Tenn., where he lived only a few years. In 1848 with his whole family - 22 in all, including spouses of his married children, grandchildren, and 2 nieces and a nephew of his 2nd wife - he made his last move to Butler County, Kentucky. There he died in January of 1859, his wife surviving him a few years. He was a devout member of the Methodist Church. As a young man he served in the war of 1812, Eastern Department. With his second wife and many of their descendants, he is buried in the family cemetery, Butler County, Kentucky.
**All the sons of Powell Tuck, Sr. who accompanied him to Kentucky except the Rev. John Percy Tuck, were Union Sympathizers in the War between the States. Their numerous contemporary cousins were all on the side of the Confederate States.
