      Mary Teas Lindsay was a daughter of Robert Lindsay, Jr. (1775-1818) and his wife Letitia Harper (1785-1835). She attended Salem College. On 13 May 1830, she married Colonel James Turner Morehead (1799-1875). Her elder sister Ann Eliza had married Jame's elder brother John Motley Morehead, later Governor of NC. James Turner and Mary Teas Lindsay Morehead had six children: Robert Lindsay Morehead (1831-1876), John Henry Morehead (Colonel, 45th NC Regt. CSA, d. 1863), Ann Eliza Morehead (1836-1914, Mrs. Theodore Whitfield), James Turner Morhead, Jr. (1838-1919, Col. 53rd NC Regt. CSA), Joseph Motley Morehead (1840-1911, Major, Confederate Army), Mary Harper "Mamie" Morehead (c.1844-1877).
