      _______________

McGehee's Mill was built on the Hyco River between 1770 and 1815 by Mumford McGehee. The original structure remained in the McGehee family for about a century. The mill was moved to Roxboro, Person County, North Carolina, in the 1980's to a permanent site which currently houses professional offices.
      _______________

Mumford sold his property in Prince Edward Co., VA on May 20, 1776 and moved with his family, and that of his father-in-law to that part of Caswell Co., NC which later became Person Co, in 1792. He first bought land on both sides of Hico river (420 acres) on Apr 22, 1776 from James & Catherine Stewart. Mumford built McGehee's Mill in Person Co. He was a planter and a throughbred horse breeder. He left Woodburn Plantation to his son, Thomas.

I ordered the Prince Edward Microfilm, so if it says deeds and gives the
deed book, it's from there. If it gives a different source and it's a deed,
then it's from a transcribed book or someone else.

      You're most welcome.

I have to date 189 misspellings of the name Mcgehee. Many are McGhee/McGee/Michie/McGaughey/ Mageeand even just Gee depending on where
they lived and how the clerk heard this old Scots name MackGahye Pat.
