Katie Irene Young Carter Birth 29 Nov 1909 Apex, Christian County, Kentucky Death 8 Feb 1984 (aged 74) Hopkinsville, Christian County, Kentucky Burial Riverside Cemetery Hopkinsville, Christian County, Kentucky Katie Irene Young Carter, daughter of Eddie Lee Young and Martha Louranie Oglesby, was born in North Christian County, Kentucky in fall 1909. She had a twin sister who died in infancy (Bessie, FindaGrave 16894975) and was one of nine children. Katie's ancestors traveled from Virginia to the state of Kentucky. Her 3rd great grandfather, Rev. Constant Oglesby, Sr. originally of Goochland, Va., was a very early settler of Christian County and performed a number of marriages in north Christian in the early 19th century. The Oglesby line, probably originally the Scottish 'Ogilvie,' married into the family of Col. William Hatcher II, born 1613 at Careby Manor, Lincolnshire, England, who came to America in the 1650s. Though her mother Katie was also the direct descendant of Isham Blake (FindaGrave memorial 58222329), who served on the personal staff of General Marquis de Lafayette at the Revolutionary War Battle of Yorktown. Some of Katie's paternal ancestors were also early settlers of the state of Tennessee. William H. Young married his wife Rebecca on March 12, 1809 in Williamson County. Katie married Arthur Earl "Buck" Carter on May 28, 1933 in Christian County. For many years Katie and Buck ran a general store east of Hopkinsville. In retirement they relocated to farmland passed down by the Carter family. Together they had four children: Bobby Nelson, Joseph Earl, and two living descendants whose names are omitted for privacy reasons. They are survived by five grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren. (Sisters Mary Evergreen Young White and Rosa Pearl Young Sharber are not represented on FindaGrave.
