• Name	Mary Adams
  	At a court held for Halifax County the fifth day of May 1781. The last will and testament of Joshua Powell was exhibited in Court and proved by the oaths of three of the subscribing witnesses and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of Mary Powell, widow and relict of said Joshua who made oath according to law Certificate is granted her for obtaining letters of administration with this will annexed of the estate of the said Joshua Powell and thereupon with Benjamin Dickson, John Adams and Joshua Adams as her sureties entered into and acknowledged bond for the same according to law. And the said Mary relinquished all right to any legacy contained in said will and claims her dower in the said deceased estate according to law. Joshua's name is engraved on a monument in Halifax as having given his life during the War of the Revolution. [Joshua Adams and John Adams are her sureties; likely family]
