Dorothy Whitehead Motley CHATHAM, Va. - Dorothy Whitehead Motley, age 99, of 18 Davis Road, Chatham, died Monday, July 12, 2004, at Danville Regional Medical Center. She was born on February 13, 1905, in Chatham, the daughter of the late Walter Munford Whitehead and Annie Leslie Whitehead. She is survived by one daughter, Dorothy "Dottee" Motley Finch of Danville; nine grandchildren, John M. Jackson and his wife, Phyllis, of Jefferson, Ga., Walter L. Jackson and his wife, Nancy, of Ringgold, David Hutcherson of Danville, John Whitehead Motley, II, Latane Mark Motley of Chatham, Michele Motley Wilson and her husband, Frank, of Greenville, S.C., and Ann Pio and her husband, Greg, of Danville, Stephanie Elizabeth Motley of Richmond and Karen Motley of Snow Creek; fourteen great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; also devoted care givers, Traci and Lori Hubbard. She was predeceased by two sons, Blair Motley, Jr., and John Whitehead Motley; one sister, Mary Elmore; and three brothers, Walter Hurt Whitehead, Samuel Leslie Whitehead and Edward T. Whitehead and one granddaughter, Denise Motley Williams. Mrs. Motley was a flower grower and voted one of Virginia's top ten horticulturists. She was a life member of the Chatham Baptist Church and was a member of the UDC and DAR and the Chatham Garden Club. Funeral services will be conducted at Chatham Baptist Church on Thursday, July 15, 2004, at 3:00 PM by the Rev. Charles Warnock and the Rev. Jack Waddell officiating.
