Her brother John Houston Gamble married Virginia Caldonia Carter who was actually my grandfathers aunt (she was the sister of my great grandfather Byron McFarland Carter. Mattie Laura Jane Pearl Hodge was born in September 1889 in Alabama, the child of James William and Rebecca Ann. She married Eugene Miller Carter in 1910 in Alabama. They had eight children in 18 years. She died on June 20, 1957, in Sylvania, Alabama, at the age of 67.
