  • Notes
    • After the custom of the time, Thomas Rives had received land from his father before the latter's death. As early as 1810 the records show him as the owner of 10 slaves in Chatham county.
In 1811, following the death of his father, Thomas Rives removed with his family to Jones County, Georgia, and settled six miles from the Ocmulgee River which, at that time, was the dividing line between the Creek Indians and the whites. In 1817 he removed to Jackson County, Georgia, and settled three miles north of Jefferson; but remained there only a short while, finally making his home near Bark Camp in Hall County, Georgia. The date of his death is not known; his great-great-grandson, Col. Homer V. Johnson, Clerk of the Court of Hall county, having indicated that there is no record of his will or of the administration of his estate among the Hall county records.
