Samuel Fain Carter, Sr., age 70, was born to J. Q. A. Carter and Mildred Richards.
He was the president of Lumbermans National Bank in Houston.
He married Carrie Banks on January 23, 1882 in Galveston.
SAMUEL FAIN CARTER, president of the Lumbermans National Bank, was born near Huntsville, Ala., September 14, 1857; removed to Texas at an early age and settled at Sherman; educated common schools of
Sherman; engaged in newspaper work from 1872 to 1881; married Miss Carrie E. Banks at Galveston, January 23, 1882; has four children, three daughters and one son; his daughter. Miss Anna Vicve Carter, was Queen of the No-Tsu-Oh Carnival in 1911; removed to Houston 1892 ; organized Emporia Lumber Company, which he successfully conducted for 15 years; organized Lumbermans National Bank in 1907; elected first president, which position he still holds; prominent in social, philanthropic and financial life of Houston; owner and builder of Houston's finest and largest office building?the 16-story Carter Building, said to be most modern structure in the South; stockholder in several corporations and actively identified with numerous public enterprises; member of various social and business clubs.
