John H. Holcombe (1773-1820) m. Elizabeth Micheaux Cocke (1784-1844) No vember 1804. They had five children. There is a clear picture of John and Betsy's family after his death. A ccording to a suit brought in Chancery court in Campbell Co., VA, John h ad only 164a. of land and when Betsey remarried to Samuel Carter, there w as a division made and she received her one third part of the estate. A llan L. Wyllie and his wife Martha Ann (Holcombe), child of John and Be tsey, along with Charles A. Holcombe, Henry W. Holcombe, Hugh Holcombe ( under age) and Sally who had married William Gough were all named in th e suit. Betsey's will is dated and probated 1844, Halifax Co., VA, naming her c hildren. The only person named Carter in regard to the will was a Marg aret B. Carter as witness, whom I have not identified yet.
