On 15 Nov 1765 He owned 400 A on Cascade Cr. (Pg 728 Bk 36 Virginia Patents & Grants FHL Film #29365.) John Harris, Sr. of Pittsylvania Co., Va sold 200 acres of this land to Joseph Harris on 14 Apr 1783 DB 7 pg 123 Film 33265) 17 Jul 1765 Valentine Gibson is listed on A List of the Poll taken at an election of a Burgess in Halifax Co., Va. on Mr. Edward Booker's list as #129 Volintine Gibson. (Pg 6 FHL 975.566 1N4c also pg 13 as Val. Gibson #119 on John Donilson List.) Pittsylvania Co. was formed from Halifax Co. in 1766 so Valentine is now living in Pittsylvania Co., Va. He moved to Surry Co., N.C. before 1771 where he appeared on the Tax List . with a 3 poll tax. He probably had two sons by this time over the age of 14. (FHL Film # 19957). Pittsylvania Co. Va. bordered Surry/Stokes Co. N.C. Valentine is listed on the 1772 Surry Co., N.C. Tax List with 3 poll tax. 7 Feb 1778 Volintine (Valentine) Gipson of Surry Co., N.C. sells to William Southerland of Pittsylvania Co., Va land situate in Co. of Pittsylvania on both sides of a large fork of Cascade Creek containing 100 Acres. Signed by Volintine Gipson & Elizabeth Gipson with their marks. Wit: Joseph Harris, Elijah Pyears, Garret Gibson, David Harris (pg 25 DB 7 Pittsylvania Co., Va.) 2 Sep 1778 Garrett Gibson owned 150 A on grassy fork of Pinchgut Creek on the waters of Dan River including whereon Valentine Gibson & John Gibson now lives for quantity. (pg 663 Stokes Co., N. C. Deeds FHL # 099957) Garrett & John were probably sons of Valentine. On the 1782 Tax list- Capt. Gaines Dist there is Valentine Gibson with 150 A; John Gibson 1 Imp & Garrott Gibson. (Surry Co., N.C. Film 19957) Valentine is on the State Census 1784-1787 1 male age 21-60; 2 males under 21, and 4 females all ages. 3 Nov 1784 Garrett Gibson granted 150 A on Grassy Fork of Pinchgut Creek including Valentine Gibson's improvements (pg 152 Land Grant #614 FHL #944492) He appears on the 1790 Census for Stokes Co. C. grant- William Boyls 100 ac adj Valentine Gibson (now sd Boyls line) John Williams former line, sd Boyls line (formerly James Gains & Thomas Ship. (pg 358 DB 2 Stokes Co., N.C.) Valentine appears on the 1800 census for Stokes Co. 1 male under 10, 1 under 16, 1 under 26 and he is over age 45; 2 females under 10, 1 under 26, 1 under 45 and 1 over 45. (Because of such young children living with him, it is wondered if a married son or daughter is living with him or if this is a Valentine Jr. If it is Valentine, Jr. it might be the same Valentine who was a bondsman to Barnabas Gibson when he was married in Grainger Co., Tn in Nov of 1800) Because of lack of proof of the names of Valentine & Elizabeth's children, a list of possible children has been prepared using deeds and other records. The same Gibson men are always living close by each other when they moved from place to place.
Ezekiel and William Gibson are on the census with Valentine in Stokes County in 1800 and a few years later deed them his land. He either died or left Stokes County when Ezekiel sold the land in 1806 'where Valentine last lived.' Ezekiel is in Surry County in 1810 . There being only two Ezekiel in the census, one in Kentucky and one in Surry County we nextfind Ezekiel in Scott County, Va., in 1820. By 1830 the Ezekiel in Kentucky is deceased and leaves Ezekiel in Scott Co., Va., a descendant of Valentine Gibson. William K. Gibson born 1814 married in Scott Co., Va., in 1835, is no doubt descendant of Valentine as the DNA of his descendants match that of James and John Gibson, sons of Valentine. William Gibson may have stayed in Stokes and made affidavit for his sister, Hannah Gibson Jackson. This is still being researched. ----- This indenture made the 7th day of October AD 1804 between Valentine Gibson of the county of Stokes State of North Carolina of the one part and Ezekiel Gibson of the County and State aforesaid of the other part. ....land lying and being on the middle fork of the Little Yadkin containing 100 acres it being one half ot he tract whereon I now live bounded as follows..
