Elizabeth Philpott, the daughter of David and Mary Ann Philpott, was born in Charles County, MD, and, if 18 years old when she was married, then she was born perhaps around 1776 [rrd: born 1780]. She too had the distinction of being among the 5th generation of Philpotts born in Charles County, MD, on the lands of her ancestor, Edward Philpott (1597-1718), and therefore of the 6th generation to live there for a brief time. Her home was in Guilford County, NC, in 1781 when her father died. She was in Henry County, VA, when she married. On 25 May 1795, a marriage license was issued to Jesse Carter and Elizabeth Philpott. Her mother, Mary Ann Philpott and her uncle John Philpott, who was appointed guardian by her father in his Will in 1781, gave their consent for this marriage. James Meridith was security [Henry County, VA, Marriage Register].

      Edward, Elizabeth Philpott's brother:

Edward Philpott, the son of David and Mary Ann [maiden name unknown] Philpott, was born, according to his tombstone, in 1771. His birthplace was on the Philpott lands in Charles County, MD, which had been the home of his ancestors for 5 generations before his birth. He was a small boy when his parents went to NC to live. When only 10 years of age his father died and it seems that a greater part of his life was spent in Henry County, VA, near his uncle John Philpott, whom his father, in his Last Will and Testament, appointed to be his guardian. Edward Philpott left no will. According to census records his home was in Henry County, VA. He paid taxes on several tracts of land on the Smith River in Patrick County, VA.
When the War of 1812 was in progress, Edward Philpott served as LT in the 18th Regiment of the VA militia and was discharged in 1814.
The marriage record of Edward Philpott was not found in Henry or Patrick Counties. [rrd: Bond is in Henry County, VA, Courthouse.] Edward married Martha Turner, daughter of William Turner and Jane Hunter.]
