  Pittsylvania Co., VA Deeds 1791-1794 Page 226. 2 Jan 1792 between Matthew Tanner and William White, overseers of the Poor of P, to John Spencer of P. The P Couort, last Dec, ordered that the overseers should bind out Travis Carter, orphan of Richard Carter, decd. The overseers aforesaid, in obedience to that order, have bound out Travis Carter as an apprentice to said Spencer until 20 Oct 1794. Carter will be taught the trade of bricklayer. Signed John Spencer, Matthew Tanner, Will White. Witness Robert Walters. Recorded 18 Jun 1792. Travis Carter, s/o Richard and Frances Walters Carter was not age 21 at his Father's death. He was bound out to Spencer, his uncle, until his 21st birthday 20 Oct 1794. 1726, George Carter sold land to Thomas Jefferson and the deed reads; Carter was left the land by WILL of Richard Womack. this land was at Wentopoch, Henrico Co., Va.
