      Col John Bland
Birth: Oct. 19, 1739, Prince George Co., Va.
Death: Apr., 1777, Amelia County, Virginia

John attended William and Mary College from 1756-1758 along with his brothers Theodorick and Edward. He was deeded 100 acres in Prince George County Virginia by his father when he reached age 21. He married Clara Yates, daughter of William Yates and Elizabeth Randolph. His brother William Bland married Clara's sister, Elizabeth Yates. An ad appears in the Virginia Gazette newspaper dated April 18 1777 announcing the property sale for his estate, being the estate of "John Bland of Amelia ounty," deceased. The inventory of his estate is recorded May 15 1777 (Amelia Will Book 2, pg 309) by his widow Clara (Yates) Bland as his administratrix. Shortly after his death a notice was posted in 1777 in the Virginia Gazette recalling Col. John Bland of Amelia County and others to active duty in the Virginia Militia. After his son John attained the age of 21 years in 1888, John Jr. was deeded his father's 414 acres in Amelia County by his mother and stepfather, Clara (Yates) Bland Bolling and Robert Bolling.
