Old family records reveal the following: Lieutenant Daniel Neale married Ellen. A date of 1659 is given. This may be when they sailed from England. Christopher Neale was born to them in 1644, he died in 1691. Christopher married Hannah Rodman and bore: Daniel Neale III, who married Ursula Presley and bore: Presley Neale, died 1749, Fairfax County, VA,who married Margaret and bore: Richard Neale , died 1816, he was born prior to 1743 and married Frances Underwood prior to 7/7/1767. Their child: Thomas Neale, born 1774; died 1834, married Margaret Winn and bore: Harriet Neale, born 9/12/1793; died 6/22/1822. Harriet married John Hardin Neal, 5/11/1820 and bore: Virginia Neal, born 12/12/1810;died 10/3/1849. She was my great great grandmother. Here's the Working Hypothesis: 1. Thomas Sr. (1630-1700) & Katherine Dale Carter 2. James of Stafford (1684-1743) and Hannah Neale [mother Ursula Presley] 3. Presley Carter S.1. (1720-xxxx) - for his Grand mother [Richard has to be born before 1745 - so this narrows the possibilities for his father] 4. Richard of Halifax (ca. 1745-1786) and Frances Unknown * [proposed Grandson of James] this dating would well fit with the first purchase of 400 acres in 1767 in Halifax ... and ... he names a son Presley *, befitting the tradition for using grand parents, rather than parents. * Separately, Frances almost "has" to be a Neale because of the naming of their children.
