    • Presley CARTER was born about 1765 in Halifax County, Virginia. (1) He resided in 1820 in Caswell County, North Carolina. (126) He died after 1820 in Tennessee.

      Halifax County Land Records:
      On 29 Jan 1791, Presley bought 16 1/2 ac. in Halifax County from William WADDELL for 9 lbs. 15 shillings. Witnesses: Levin CARTER and Nathanial WADDELL. DB 15, p.137.
      On 19 Apr 1792, Presley bought from Noel WADDELL for 50 lbs. 200 ac. on Toby's Creek bounded by Philip THOMAS and RUSSELL. Not witnessed was presented in court by Noel himself. DB 15, p. 336
      On 3 Jul 1795, Presley CARTER deed to Abner RODING. Witnesses: John ATHERTON, James RODDEN, Frederick MILLER. DB 16, pg. 483.
      On 7 Apr 1805, Presley CARTER, Levin CARTER, Thompson CARTER and Frederick MILLER sold to Spencer CARTER, 100 acres of Richard CARTER's land. Parents: Richard CARTER and Frances __?__ .[Walters]

      He was married to Oney WADDELL on 29 Jan 1789 in Halifax County, Virginia. Children were: Thornton CARTER, Paschal CARTER, Peyton CARTER, Henrietta CARTER, Stewart CARTER, William CARTER
    • William Carter's will, probated July 27, 1812, mentions 195
      acres of land he had purchased from his father, George Carter. He left his estate to his brothers and sisters as follows: Mitty Norris, £250; Elizabeth Carter. £200; Melia Carter, £200; Anne Grayson, £50; George Carter. £50: and residue to brothers Presley and Everett.

James sisters, Lucy and Harriett married Gravitt brothers, John King and William Jefferson] [The Halifax Co./Pittsylvania Co. line is also near the Caswell Co., NC; Documents and Records for these Carter families are also found in each locality]

    • 6 Nov 1860 Record Book M, Fannin Co. Courthouse Texas Page 187; Wm P. Carter sold the wagons and mules that he brought from Tennessee to his son A. P. Carter;
      Transcription follows:

      Wm P. Carter Deed to A. P. Carter. The State of Texas, County of Fannin. Know all men by these present that I Wm P. Carter of the county and State aforesaid, for and in consideraiton of the natural love and affection which I have and bear for my Son A. P. Carter of the County and State aforesaid and for the further consideration of Fifty Dollars to me in hand paid by my said son the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, have this day bargained, sold, and conveyed such to the said A. P. Carter a certain 2 Horse Wagon and two large Black Mane mules, and Harnesses for the same, it being the wagon and mules etc brought by me from Tennessee to said State of Texas to have and to hold the same unto Said AP Carter, his heirs or assigns forever, hereby warranting and forever defending the title to Same to Said AP Carter, his heirs or assigns against the claim or claims of all persons whomsoever Lawfully claiming the Same. Witness my hand and ?? for Seal, this November 6th A.D. 1860.
